China Looking to Fund New Projects in Angola as Agriculture and Industry Ventures Take Off

 China’s ambassador to Angola, Zhang Bin, reinforced China’s commitment to economic and business cooperation with Angola, in a meeting with President João Lourenço.

“We discussed our cooperation plan for the future. We reached a consensus that we should further strengthen and deepen cooperation in other areas between China and Angola, especially our economic and trade cooperation”, stated the ambassador after a visit to Angola’s Presidential Palace (pictured above).

Although Angola and China already cooperate in several areas in line with what is considered a strategic partnership, the Chinese ambassador also revealed that China is set to make new investments in Angola in the agricultural and industrial sectors.

“Our cooperation aims to focus on infrastructure construction and investment, especially in the areas of agriculture, industry and mining. Recently, there have already been several Chinese investment projects in the area of agriculture and industry and we will continue to promote these investments”, the ambassador said.

Zhang Bin also reiterated Angola’s status as a good economic partner and that it has honored its debt commitments.

“Both the debt and loan issues are part of bilateral economic and trade relations. There is no debt conflict between our countries. In the future, China is willing to provide Angola with more funds and to materialize and implement important projects”, he added.

In 2023, the volume of trade between Angola and China reached USD 23 billion, with China remaining Angola’s main creditor.
