China Aviation Lithium Battery Technology´s (CALB) project for a lithium battery factory in Sines, in Portugal, which is under public consultation.
The unit foresees an investment of 2,060 million euros and the creation of 1,800 direct jobs, according to Jornal Económico.
For the Chinese company, the objective is to start production by the end of 2025, due to high demand from customers, mainly from the automotive industry.

The industrial unit will be located on a 45-hectare plot of land in the Sines Industrial and Logistics Zone (ZILS) and will have a capacity of 15 gigawatt-hours (GWh), equivalent to 38.6 million cells per year.
In November 2022, CALB told Lusa that this project, which was recognized as a Project of Potential National Interest (PIN) in March last year, could represent more than 4% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) when it is in full swing.
In four years, the company hopes to expand the facilities, scaling the unit from 15 to 45 GWh.
