Construction of Chinese-owned Dugongo cement plant in the northern Mozambique city of Nacala-Porto, announced last year, is set to begin, according to local officials.
According to Mozambican newspaper O País, authorities in the province of Nampula and Dugongo Cimentos have agreed that the plant is built in the city of Nacala-Porto.
Local official Mety Gondola said the plant will be able to produce 2 million tonnes of cement a year.
Dugongo Cimentos executive Wang Feng added that building will begin once the company has all the necessary permission. The agreement was signed this month.
Nampula has an abbundance of limestone for making clinker, according to O País.
