Chinese train manufacturer CRRC Tangshan has made a bid in the tender by CP – Comboios de Portugal for the acquisition of 117 railcars for regional and suburban services.
According to CP, a total of six bids was received, including an individual one from Hitachi Rail (Japan), and another Stadler Rail Valencia. CP said in a statement that candidates who are admitted “will be invited, simultaneously, to submit proposals for the supply of 117 trains and construction of a rolling stock maintenance workshop”.
The tender also attracted a grouping with Alstom Transporte, Bombardier Transportation Portugal (owned by Alstom) and Domingos da Silva Teixeira (DST) and another including the manufacturing unit and the engineering unit of Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles and CAF Turnkey & Engineering.

The third grouping to enter the bid is formed by the Patentes Talgo and Siemens Mobility.
According to CP, “the competition jury will now proceed with the analysis of the bids with a view to their qualification, with all candidates who meet the technical and financial capacity requirements foreseen in the documents of the procedure being admitted to the next stage”.
The qualification decision will be taken within 44 working days from February 15th, the date on which the deadline for submitting applications ended.
