Flexible Electronics Laboratory Unites China and Europe

Portugal´s NOVA FCT, the Hefei Institutes of Physical Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (HFIPS-CAS) and the European Academy of Sciences (EURASC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding laying the foundations for the creation of a collaborative laboratory dedicated to the area of flexible electronics.

José Júlio Alferes, director of NOVA FCT, Rodrigo Martins and Elvira Fortunato, professors and researchers from the Department of Materials Science and coordinator and sub-coordinator of CENIMAT/i3N, respectively, were present in the Chinese city to follow up on this important partnership.

During the ceremony, which took place in the Chinese city of Hefei on July 4, Rodrigo Martins was awarded the title of Distinguished Scientist by the PIFI (President International Fellow Initiative) of the CAS, the highest distinction awarded to foreign members of the Academy.

Since its creation in 2009, the title has been awarded to only 5000 scientists worldwide, and rewards those who are internationally recognized for outstanding achievements in the field of science and technology.

Elvira Fortunato was appointed Honorary Professor by the Hefei Institutes of Physical Sciences (HFIPS-CAS), a research base integrated into CAS.
