On the sidelines of the 6th Ministerial Conference of the Macau Forum, Portuguese businessmen from Macau are raising awareness of the new Government of Portugal of the strategic importance of the Guangdong Province for the Portuguese economy.
Quinta da Marmeleira, a Portuguese business group, is expanding its operations to the deep cooperation zone of Hengqin, an area of almost 100 square kilometers adjacent to Macau and which will be jointly administered by the Government of the Macau Special Administrative Region and the Provincial Government of Guangdong, People’s Republic of China.
According to the executive advisor of the CEO of the Quinta da Marmeleira (QM), Carmen Wu, the group has just opened an office in Hengqin to follow closely the opportunities generated by the provincial government of Guangdong and the Special Administrative Region of Macau, taking advantage of the role of logistical platform and also for operations of the tourism sector. QM is active in the tourist sector through its travel agencies in Portugal and China.
This project of QM group is on track to present itself as a successful effort of the Portuguese Communities in Asia, personified by the founder of the group Wu Zhiwei.
Recently, CEO Chao Peng Lao (pictured above, right) paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary of State of Portuguese communities, José de Almeida Cesário (pictured above, left), at the time of the presentation of the new government program in the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal.
Guangdong is one of the most industrialized, developed, cosmopolitan and rich provinces of China, where gradually Macau is being integrated.
Chinese Ambassador to Portugal Encourages CPLP Business Confederation
Chao Peng Lao, also vice-president of the Luso-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and shareholder of the Portuguese Institute of the East (IPOR), said that the action of Portuguese economic diplomacy should focus even more on this province of more than 120 million Chinese middle-class consumers, whose purchasing power is higher than the Portuguese.
Portugal will be present at the VI Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries through a government delegation led by the Minister of Economy, Pedro Reis, and accompanied by a Portuguese business delegation.
The event will take place between April 21st and 23rd.
