Portugal´s University of Beira Interior Expands Partnerships With Chinese Universities

Portugal´s University of Beira Interior (UBI) has expanded its number of partnerships with international institutions, following the signing of two cooperation agreements with the Chinese universities of Shaoxing and Jiaxing.

The exchange of protocols took place as part of a visit by a UBI delegation to the two academies, which also included a visit to several companies in the same region, Huang Zhou.

The UBI delegation included the Vice-Rector for Internationalization, José Páscoa, and professors Paulo Almeida and Albertino Figueiredo (both from the Chemistry Department), Clemente Pinto (Civil Engineering and Architecture Department) and Pedro Gaspar (Electromechanical Engineering Department).

The contacts established have opened doors to the possibility of UBI hosting students and researchers from both universities, namely to attend Master’s and PhD courses.

Also in terms of exchange, Jiaxing University has shown interest in receiving professors from UBI’s Chemistry, Civil Engineering and Architecture departments, with the goal to support, explore and use the new research equipment that the university has recently acquired, in areas where UBI has more than a quarter of a century’s experience.

Jiaxing University expressed its interest in establishing a double degree partnership with UBI’s Electromechanical Engineering degree course for the next 15 years, with work also beginning to expand this partnership to the Civil Engineering and Industrial Chemistry degree courses, considered strategic for financial support by the Chinese Ministry of Education.

Also as part of this visit, which took place between July 6 and 10, Pedro Gaspar had the opportunity to give a MasterClass on “innovative strategies for reducing thermal loads in commercial refrigeration systems”, which was appreciated by the Chinese teachers and students who took part in the session.

The visit to China represented the importance that the UBI academy attaches to these international relations, which represent significant added value for teachers and students.
