The National Museum of Cinema of China is showcasing Portugal in the first exhibition of foreign cinema held this year by the public institution based in Beijing.
The Films of Portugal show includes the black and white classic Os Verdes Anos, from 1963, and Listen, the first feature film directed by Ana Rocha de Sousa. Km 224, the new film by António-Pedro Vasconcelos, is also part of the six Portuguese feature films and a documentary to be screened.
These are mainly artistic films, which show how real people and culture inspire Portuguese filmmakers to tell their stories on the big screen, described the official newspaper Global Times.
In 2016, Beijing hosted a film exhibition comprising a total of 24 Portuguese films, as part of an agreement between the two countries to promote Portuguese works in China and Chinese films in Portugal. In 2015, 32 Chinese films were shown in two cinemas in Lisbon.
This year’s event runs until September 11.
