Angola’s President João Lourenço has turned his attention to the port sector, both in an effort to assert his authority politically and also to improve the ports themselves. Angola has four main existing and planned ports running north to south: Caio in Cabinda, Luanda and the associated planned port of Barra do Dande, Lobito and Namibe, but Luanda is currently by far the most important.

On September 23, a high-speed train will for the first time connect Hong Kong with Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, and China’s national high-speed network. The journey time will be 48 minutes, compared to nearly two hours for the current service.

The proposal for the construction of a railway line involving three southern African countries - Mozambique, Zambia, and Zimbabwe - with an estimated cost of US$ 2.5 billion at the outset was presented this year by China Tiesiju Civil Engineering Group authorities in Harare, local media reported.
